Book Review: Georgia Bottoms

I had seen this book reviewed on Amazon awhile ago and pinned it to my "Books"board on Pinterest after it got my interest. Over a year later, I have finally been able to read it and I was a BIG fan!

It's a sassy and steamy book about Miss Georgia Bottoms of Six Points, Alabama. She has quite the love life and "rotation". I don't want to give too much of it away for those of you who will want to read it, but I definitely recommend it.

Not a major literary work, but a fun, easy, light read--perfect for vacation! It's among the first for-pleasure books I've read in awhile (read: spring break-ish) and I really liked it. I actually read it during the flight home for Thanksgiving. It was a quick page-turner and had some big drama turning points in the story that were funny and wild.

I'd put this book along the same lines as Dorothea Benton Frank books with a quirky Southern flair about a woman who you can't help but like! I want to look into reading some of Mark Childress' other books after picking up Georgia Bottoms now for sure!

Summer Statements: Zolie Designs

Y'all know that this summer has been the summer of the accessory for me. I've bulked up my collection thanks to all kinds of sites online. I have loved pairing statement necklaces with strapless dresses and tops this summer and I look forward to integrating them into my fall wardrobe and Gameday wardrobe as well!

Zolie Designs is a great go-to option for awesome statement jewelry. Here are a few of my favorite pieces:
Pink, green, and some glitz? This has LBP ALL over it!
Pink and orange is such a great combination for summer through fall. I could see this working with the majority of my closet!
Speaking of Gameday, this could be perfect for my sister who's headed down to Auburn in under a month! Blue and orange has got to be calling any Auburn Tiger for Gameday!
This would be another awesome Gameday piece for a Gamecock, Alabama fan or Georgia Bulldawg! Just not a summer Gameday or you could be crusin' for a brusin' with a crazy suntan line. I'd rock this over a black dress and turtleneck, jumper style--a favorite cold Gameday look of mine.
Picture this necklace with a white oxford button down and navy shorts and white Jack Rogers OR skinny jeans and boots. Talk about transition!

Zolie Designs has graciously offered LBP readers 10% off with the code: BEPREPPY

There is a statement necklace to match any outfit option, summer THROUGH fall! Which one is your favorite?

Toomer's Corner

Congrats on your graduation (WITH distinction!) to my sister Grace and all of the class of 2012!

Grace is headed to Auburn in the fall and we couldn't be more excited to be a house divided!

In honor of Auburn, part of her graduation party was our DIY Toomer's Corner:
To quote "The Parent Trap" this "brilliant beyond brilliant idea" came to my Mom and she and I kept it a secret from Grace!
Before everyone started to arrive, I decided to get Toomer's Corner started...
Awkwardly, I was pretty good at it, but I'm not sure how all those Tigers do it on SUCH a high tree!
For those who aren't familiar with Toomer's Corner, this is what it looks like after football wins! Read more here.
This was just one of many of the TP-ed trees in our backyard in our own Toomer's Corner! It ended up being so much fun and a great activity to get all the little kids involved in! Definitely something to think about if someone you know is headed to Auburn!

HAPPY GRADUATION GRACE! It was great to celebrate with you on Saturday!

(P.S.: It's REALLY weird to write about another SEC school's tradition. Just sayin'...GO GAMECOCKS.)

Campus Prayers

Being on a college campus, you hear about all kinds of rumors and different scares that happen on college campuses near and far. I have a lot of college-aged followers and so I get a special glimpse and what happens across the country. As I've seen, there have been a lot of pretty scary things going on on different campuses so I'd like to keep a few different schools in mind:

James Madison University

East Carolina University

University of Alabama

Do you know anyone who goes to these schools?

Let's all keep them each in our thoughts and prayers!

A House Divided

My sister is in town for the USC/Auburn game this weekend!

She very may well be an Auburn Tiger in a few months, so this weekend we are quite the house divided! While she'll be donning her garnet and black garb this weekend, I think she's probably pulling for the Auburn Tigers (thankfully it's not those other Tigers that we will NOT be naming!) just this one game!

I am so excited for our little mini-competition and can't wait to have a great day at the game tomorrow!

GO GAMECOCKS!

P.S.: Happy October y'all!

Giveaway: Stadium Stompers!

For any of y'all that follow college football, you'll know we started LAST weekend for most of our schools! For all my Carolina Gamecocks, we are just itchin' to get a real home game in Williams Brice like nobody's business! This week the Gamecocks take on the Georgia Dawgs between the hedges down in Athens. I have a lot of friends going and they are going to have a blast!

Knowing typically Southern weather it's going to be crazy hot and insanely humid. The worst though, are games when it rains. There's nothing worse than looking fabu in your Gameday dress and having to tote a yucky raincoat around just in case. Well, that is until now:

Want to win a pair?
My personal favorite--South Carolina!

They literally make pairs for all of the following schools:
Tennessee, UVA, Ole Miss, Auburn, West Virginia, UNC, LSU, Richmond, Alabama, (dare I say it) Clemson, UGA, Texas A&M, USC (the real one AND the other one), and MANY more! There are so many combinations and you can shop by color or product!

Here are ALL the ways you can win:

1. For 1 entry become a fan of Stadium Stompers on facebook
2. For 1 additional entry (2 total) become a fan of Let's Be Preppy on facebook
3. For 1 more additional entry (3 total) follow Stadium Stompers on Twitter
4. For 1 more additional entry (4 total) tweet about this giveaway!
5. For 1 more additional entry (5 total) post about this giveaway on your blog!
6. Leave all entries in ONE comment on this post!

Enter by 11:59 by NEXT Friday! Can't wait to see which girl from which school wins! Go Gamecocks! Go SEC!

Good luck y'all!

Pearls of Wisdom...or Witherspoon

"I just want to say to all the girls out there, I know it's cool to be bad, I get it. It's also possible to make it...without a reality show. It's possible to be a good girl. I'm gonna try to make it cool..." --Reese Witherspoon

Cool girl Reese Witherspoon has really got it right. Besides playing some of my favorite roles in some of my favorite movies, I am a huge Reese fan. After reading her quote from the  MTV Movie Awards of 2011, I like her even more!

You rule Miss Witherspoon! Thanks for reppin' the nice girls!

Southern Wedding Week: The Traditions and Winners Announced!

Reese Witherspoon as Melanie Smooter in Sweet Home Alabama

Southern weddings tend to be steeped in tradition. Whether it's the type of flowers used in the decorations or the ceremony or the cake served, most every part of a SW has some tradition linked to it. Typically your southern brides will always be given away by their daddy, wear white, have their shoulders covered (after mom and grandma officially OK the dress...thank you Say Yes to the Dress Atlanta for teaching us all that lesson) and carry white flowers.

Cake pulls are another southern tradition still used today. Small silver charms intended for bridesmaids and members of the bridal party. Each charm tells a fortune or prediction for the future and is a quaint memento of the wedding celebration said one site selling the charms. Each charm has a different meaning: rings, hearts, red beans, stars, anchor, four leaf clovers, all mean something different.

Grooms cakes are another very popular southern tradition. I've seen countless grooms cakes on Cake Boss and Ace of Cakes pretty frequently as a fun way to honor the groom's hobbies, talents or interests! Most recently, I saw a fast food groom's cake, too much fun!

Rice throwing is also a very southern tradition. A sign of fertility, plentifulness and abundance! What a nice message to send your newlywed friends with!

A funny little guide to helping every southern bride out there was written a few years ago called Somebody is Going to Die if Lily Beth Doesn’t Catch That Bouquet: The Official Southern Ladies’ Guide to Hosting the Perfect Wedding! What a title, right? I also love the double name thrown in too, talk about southern tradition!

Now for our Southern Wedding Week winners:

My Next Roadtrip/Vacay: Starr's Mill, GA

Anyone recognize this little place?
How about that view? Maybe from a Rom Com in Alabama?

Some people visit the city that One Tree Hill was filmed in, some people go to the place in Maryland where Runaway Bride ran away, but I want to find Deep South Glass! I LOVE Sweet Home Alabama and this part of the movie. When Melanie sees Jake and puts 2 and 2 together and realizes he's a glassblower because that's how he fell in love with her, I swoon!

Wouldn't this be a fun mini-road trip? It's only 207 miles! (Only...jeeze!)
