Roadtrip: T-Minus 10

I've been talking a lot about a roadtrip recently. One of my best friends from school and I are going to take a roadtrip from my house to school!
Here's the fabulous route that we'll be taking care of my TomTom!

I am so excited about making this trip, however I've never done one quite like this! I've never driven the entire 9 hours myself. I've been a passenger on a return trip from Christmas break, and I've driven portions of the trip, but I've never done it all on my own. I'm considering it my own little test and I'm sure I can do it! What's the longest driving trip you've ever made?

Here's my list of stuff to bring so far:
  1. GPS/Mapquest directions (although in all seriousness, I'll be making 7 turns for the whole trip)
  2. Snacks (stops will be made, obviously)
  3. Diet Coke
  4. iPod with FAB playlists (thankfully Aly and I love the same music so that won't be an issue)
  5. Gas $$ (rats!)
  6. Comfy driving shoes (aka sneakers and no Jack Rogers)
Any advice for me? I'm happy to take any at all!!!

xxKatie

I drove from Virginia Beach, VA to Monterey, CA by myself. It took 3 days. I almost had a nervous breakdown. You can do this. Start early, stop at least every 2 hours, and never get below 1/4 tank of gas. Good luck!

Take toilet paper!!! You never know when you will be caught between bathrooms and not able to hang on!

I always keep a roll in my glove box just in case.

9 hours really isnt long at all...when you think you can leave at breakfast and be there by dinner. I've done lots of 10-12 hour drives through the night so it is easy enough to do.

Plus you have company right? It will fly by!

Longest I ever did was from Maryland to Charlotte but it ended up taking almost 11 hours because of traffic. It was only supposed to take 7. Hint and word of advice - if you ever get tired, open your window for air and turn on the hip hop music! Also, at state trooper told one of my neighbors that if you are sucking on ice, you physically cannot fall asleep! Good luck girl, you'll be fine!

Have fun... but remember that the heat index is brutal down here. There is a heat advisory all week.

Diet coke is an absolute must! Longest drive I've ever done is from Pittsburgh to Georgia, it's about 12 hours and we do it every summer to spend time at our family lake house. Besides diet coke, my ipod is a must because I get SO bored during long car rides. That's good to hear that you and your friend have the same taste in music.
Good luck with your trip; hope you have a blast!!

I drove across the country (DC to CA) and man, I do not want to do that again for a LONG time! Do not let your tank of gas get low! Even if you think you can make it to the next town stop earlier! I once stopped at this gas station and it was under construction. The next one wasn't for miles and miles. it was awful!

Make stops, take photos, have fun!
