Formal Season: The Short Story

It's that time of year again, y'all! The season of formals, galas, weddings, and proms is upon us! Today is all about the short dress for a big event!A big trend I've noticed in college is rocking cocktail dresses to formals and events instead of attempting the (often impossible) task of tracking down a long formal dress.

Whether your excuse to dress up is a big fete or a small soiree, here are a few of my favorite formal dress choices for your event!
I have to take extreme precautions to actively NOT order this Tibi ruffle dress. I am IN LOVE with it. I have a formal event coming up (more to come!!) and would LOVE to wear this dress. This dress would be a phenomenal dress to have in your closet because of its wearability. There are so many ways to change this dress and the shape works for so many different options!
I think this Isaac Mizrahi dress SCREAMS party! The bow and shimmer makes it perfect for your dressy event and I love this look for a prom or formal. Pop your date in a pink bowtie and you are ALL set!
In the most recently Lilly shipment, the Rosaline in this delightful pink and orange combination showed up! I haven't tried this dress on because I'm afraid I'll like it too much...

This Tibi shift is one of my faves I've seen recently. It's shift shape is appropriate for all kinds of events, and I see your date in a white dinner jacket to complete the ensemble! The pale pink can be dressed up and down and the sheen looks great with any color metallic.
This silvery-champagne Aidan Mattox stunner reminds me of something we'd see Kate Middleton in pre-pregnancy. I would advise a little bit of a tan in this dress since it's so neutral, but I see this dress looking great for a wedding or formal. If you wanted to get adventurous, adding a metallic or patent belt around the waist!
I know, I know, I said short story, but I had to include one long dress! I actually saw this dress on an episode of Castle (anyone else watch it!?) and through some investigation, I finally found who made it! This Laundry dress really caught my eye on TV and this is a dress I absolutely want to add to my collection. I wish I had formal events to go to more often to make this even more practical, but it's calling my name so loudly that I might have to get it anyway!!

What's your big event this spring? What are you donning for your formal event?

Weekly Gratitude

1. I am thankful to be posting this on Monday and being back on track for the first time in awhile!
2. I am thankful to be returning home on Wednesday!! I'll be back in Annapolis Wednesday evening and I couldn't be more excited!!!
3. I am thankful that almost all of the October birthdays are done! Phew, it was QUITE the birthday week last week! The cup above was one of two that I designed for Colleen on Etsy!
4. I am thankful for Southern Belle Boutique, where the glasses were from, for getting everything to me on time and VERY well packed! Nothing to be afraid of when ordering from her!! (I'll be doing a longer post on the whole order in a few days!)
5. I am thankful for my two "new" coats! I washed two coats I have and they look BRAND new! I was so excited to see that they came out ok since I'm not super familiar with how to wash jackets!
6. I am thankful to have finally gotten a new phone battery! Verizon hasn't been the easiest to deal with, and I am SO OVER my Blackberry. It quite during the Luke Bryan concert night which was too bad because there were so many tweet-able moments!
7. I am thankful for some new design ideas for my bathroom! I think I'm going to hang up a few new decor items and change up the rugs. Easy enough! I didn't change very much in my room or bathroom when I moved in, so I'm thinking this will be perfect! Instead of pink and white, I think I'm going to go with a pink and navy color scheme!
8. I am thankful that I get to see a Navy game while I'll be at home!! I'm also very lucky because it'll be the second Navy game I get to see this season!!!!
9. I am thankful that I only have 1 test on Tuesday standing between me and going home! Best. Feeling. Ever!
10. I am thankful that I got a decently restful weekend and have so much to look forward to this coming week!!

Spring Break: Prep

First of all, please forgive the lack of posting this week! The wonderful folks over at Blogger HQ have been helping me update my blogger dashboard! I've been having muy problemos with logging on/posting/saving drafts/etc. so they were great! We're back up and running now! I will be spending all weekend with these few things:

aka all day today I'm a busy bee and I'm ORGANIZING, ORGANIZING, ORGANIZING! I have a super busy week ahead of me (two midterm and two projects) and so I'm getting ready for break this weekend! Last night I headed over to Target to get some travel essentials: books (look for a post on my two books tomorrow), sunscreen, lotion for sunburns, a swim coverup, and a few other necessities! I can't wait to see my family and relax in Aruba!
