Outfit of the Day: Ruffle a few Feathers

March 21

I have finally broken out one of my favorite tops from last summer, the Wiley Tube Top! (Good news: I know that Lilly is remaking this WONDERFUL staple of my closet this summer!) The Wiley features such a fun ruffle across the top and comes in a few other colors too! (A ruffle often helps us girls out who could use a little assistance up top...if you know what I mean!)

This week the weatherman had been calling for rain and high temps, but since we're in South Carolina, all we got was the hot weather! ...and pollen, but y'all have seen enough of my stuffed up tweets about my allergy issues! I was excited to rock my Wiley when it was 86 degrees on Wednesday if you could ever believe that! Late March and it's already 86 degrees! I can't imagine what the summer is going to be like, but it should be toasty!

The Wiley Tube Top is absolutely one of my favorite tops that Lilly has ever produced. I tend to go up a size, so it's not as constricting, but it also gives you the chance to tuck it in, which I did and added a belt! It adds a little bit of flare to your outfit and can make it look more polished. I like wearing the tube top loose with white jeans and when it's really hot out, that way it's not tight or too close to your body!

What are some of your favorite hot weather staples? I'm all about shorts and fun, frilly tops like this!!

Outfit of the Day: Cognac Inspired

October 28

I don't mean the drink silly!

I mean the shade of leather! Duh.

I love this shade of brown for boots and belts! It's so versatile and works great with navy, black, white, pink, khaki, and everything else. I love to pair cognac with gold accessories and pieces. I got my boots from Bandolino a few years ago, but they come out with an updated riding boot every fall/winter season! I LOVE mine since they have a no-skid rubber  bottom and really have molded to my feet. Part of the bottom is starting to peel off of mine, so I might have to get it re-soled over Christmas break depending on how much more I wear them. (I'm guessing I'll have to go do that since I wear them a few times per week...)

What kind of brown do you wear in the fall and winter? Do you transition to a darker shade when it gets colder? Do you mostly just stick to black? Do you just have different colors for different outfits? Let me know!!

Gameday Central: Smathers & Branson

So as the SEC child that I am, I'm excited for the first day of school as much as the next girl, but what I'm really most excited for is our FIRST GAMEDAY! Needless to say, I'm always always always looking for good gameday dresses, accessories, and general Gamecock stuff!! One of my favorite places to look for Gamecock stuff is Smathers and Branson! (They're a BIG deal in the SEC, as I'm sure any of my Southeastern Conference readers can attest to!)

I mean really, no matter WHO you root for, this is PERFECT! The neutral backing would go with literally everything in your closet!

Y'all know I'm a sucker for anything Garnet and Black. Of course this key fob is great for any current, future, or alum Gamecocks! Pop this badboy on your key ring and everyone already knows who you cheer on (and who ya don't...Clemson...or shall I say, the school-that-must-not-be-named?)

For the rest of my readers who aren't SEC guys (which how fun is this, a post for the boys!!) or gals, here are a few of my other favorite picks:
This Bonefish belt is my all time favorite needlepoint belt that S&B makes! It is so fun and whimsical and perfect for any guy out there!
This Elephants and Martini needlepoint belt is certainly more whimsical and fun! Fun fact: the martini glasses are actually silvery! SO fun--y'all know how much I like extras like that! Plus, let's be real, pink elephants enjoying cocktails...I'm all about it!
Now this pick is for the girls! This Houndstooth would be perfect to transition into fall! I can pair this with so many Gameday outfits!

How fun is this stuff! Perfect if you're a guy or a girl! Keep your eyes out for ANOTHER fun pairing with Smathers and Branson coming up soon!!

Anyone else out there S&B fans? Count me in!

My Next Roadtrip/Vacay: Cape Cod, MA

It's BOOKED ladies and gents! I'm off to Cape Cod for the beginning of August! I'm visiting a friend who's interning for the farm team baseball leagues! Summer Catch anyone?
I can't wait to head up to New England for a few days!
It is going to be so much fun to head out there! I've never been to Cape Cod before so it'll be great! cRc will be a local by then and more than able to give me a tour!
I hope I see a lot of these...
Even more of these...
And a ton of this SPECIFIC shade of red. Anyone out there can name it? (PS, are we loving that belt? Yep, gave it to Daddyo as a Christmas giftaroo!)

Just last year I was in the planing stages of THIS roadtrip which turned out to be a huge, massive raving success! To Aly and Aldy expect an anniversary shoutout y'all! I expect nothing less from this roadtrip as well!!

Can anyone name the color I'm thinking of? It's a destination themed color...that's a big hint!!

A Recent Acquisition

I got this little number awhile ago from the wonderful ladies down at Pink Sorbet on sale. I had admired it when we FIRST got in in the Pink Crab with the first delivery of fall, but couldn't get myself to think about Fall dresses at the end of July. So I waited, and Sadie drifted out of mind. On facebook, I saw that PS was holding a fab sale that included FALL! I couldn't believe my luck (I also couldn't believe that Resort was coming in. Skyler and I already know our favorite pieces AND prints!) and I went in to see if maybe by chance they had a few things in my sizes! Man, I hit the jackpot if you ask me!

I asked the PS women (as we all drooled over the new products coming out of the resort boxes) what kind of shoes I could wear with this (read: with tights and maybe even jumper style with a blue turtleneck) and we all agreed on brown boots. I have THE best boots from last year that I absolutely love from Bandolino.
I'm trying to find a belt that would match these, but it's proving to be very difficult. I just want a very plain, not studded, not braided, brown belt. I feel like they just don't make those for women like they do for me. Belts are so trendy these days and trendy doesn't really match what I ever wear. If anyone has any suggestions for where to find a good belt (in a college student's budget...) help a sister out!

Outfit of the Day: Leopard Details

I wore this on Saturday after giving a tour! It is still BEAutiful weather here in SC and you can practically wear whatever you want and it's still comfortable. It's sunny and cool and breezy and you really can't ask for nicer weather! I love my v-neck black sweater for days like this. I wore my 5 inch J. Crew chino shorts and a GREAT leopard belt that I got on sale at Target! I LOVE this belt, it's felt and so cute. Also, I wore the awesome shoes my mom surprised me with during Parent's Weekend. She got me the Lilly Livning the Colorful Life sandals in black and gold:
They're perfect gameday shoes and I wear them to work all the time. I get so many compliments on them and they're pretty comfy. The rubber bottom is also great for walking around a lot!

I do enjoy a nice leopard print, especially during the fall. I have a pair of leopard flats from Target too that are felt-y and super cute (although a little old, so this might be their last year...oh no!). Anyone else enjoy leopard print? I sure do!

Outfit of the Day: Cool Seersucker to Beat the Heat!

This Izod Seersucker skirt is one of my favorites in my closet. My mom actually has a matching one, and we tend to pack them whenever we go on vacation. Even at home, (mostly on Sundays before church) I'd come down the stairs dressed in something and she yells, "But I got dressed first!!" This most recently happened two weekends ago when I wore my Worth Shift in the Not So Crabby print, and she wore a blue plaid crab shift too!

I love this skirt because it's actually a skort! It can be worn with white, green, or pink and the khaki adds a nice touch to make it great even for early fall. It is so comfy and washes decently. Seersucker is so great for the summer, and has always been one of my favorites. I have a seersucker dress, a pair of pink seersucker shorts, two seersucker skirts (this one included), a blue seersucker belt, and I used to have a pair of seersucker pants! Plus, I had to be on campus and I wanted to look a little nicer than usual, so I added a (Southern Tide) polo actually but couldn't find a good photo of it online to include in my polyvore! I LOVE those polos as I've said before, and the white still looks very crisp even after wearing it through the summer!

Anyone else a fan of seersucker? Clearly I am!

Boy Lesson 2: Casual Wear

This is part two of my segment on what boys can wear! I'm not entirely sure how many posts this will have, but this one is devoted to casual wear (for warmer weather since it's snowing in many places now!!) since the last one was a bit more formal. Let's start with tops/shirts:

T-Shirts:

T-Shirts can be great for any occasion. They can be worn tucked in or not, and just keep them clean, both hygiene-wise and word-wise. No one likes your tacky beer shirt or the "I'm with stupid" shirt. Novelty shirts are just silly. Sports teams are also great! When I was in high school, all the boys typically wore either lacrosse t-shirts or sport teams that they played. Now that I'm in college, I think it's time for guys to depart with all their high school sports team shirt and move onto college--much more timely!!

Polos:

Polos are a good alternative to t-shirts. They automatically look dressier than a T, but here it's all about preference. I think every guy needs a few colors: White, Black, Navy, Red, and Pink (yes, pink, you can pick the shade). With those 5 colors, the possibilities are endless, especially with white. A white polo is so crisp looking and I think when in doubt, a white polo always looks great!

Shorts:

If you're looking to go basic khaki is always great, even though not pictured. I think that nice khaki shorts are great in the spring through early fall and can be very versatile, coordinating with a button-down, polo, or t-shirt. All the other shorts options shown are great too. I'm a HUGE fan of madras as I said in the last post. I like both pastel (I'm actually more fond of pastels) and traditional, but I think guys are more likely to buy a traditional colored pair with deep hues like red, navy and gold. Either way they're a great choice. I absolutely ADORE colored twill shorts. I think these are the best choice out of all of them because of the color range. You can get colors to literally match anything in your closet. And last but certainly not least are seersucker. I think seersucker is the epitome of summertime since it's so light and comfortable. (The last 3 photos of shorts are all from VV, just a head's up because they've got a great selection for guys!)

Accessories:

Croakies: I'm not entirely sure how I feel about them. If you take them out of context, they are extremely functional, although at school they have a rep as being "very fratty" (which I don't this is entirely a bad thing, but like I said, it depends on the context) because mostly frat guys wear them. I wear them, though and I'm a girl. I have a garnet USC one for gameday and I have a pink palmetto one that I like a lot!

Sunglasses: They don't have to be aviators, but I think every guy needs a good pair of sunglasses that look good on them. Again, they're very functional, but only buy expensive ones if you know you can take care of them. Brands boys wear typically include Costa del Mar (in the South), Ray Bans (in the North), Oakleys (in the north), Von Zipper (in the North), and then most of the time cheap-o ones from anywhere.

Belts: I think every guy (and girl for that matter) needs a good leather belt. Along with a leather belt, maybe spring for a few funner belts like these from Tucker Blair and Smathers and Branson. These two companies are well known for their craftsmanship, and you know you're getting something great. At the store I used to work in, we sold S & B belts and keychains and the keychains flew off the shelves with women too! There was a boy in my high school who had a S & B 4-leaf clover belt that I LOVED. I never told him that but it was SO nice!

I hope the boys out there will appreciate some of these notes!! Just suggestions and chances are they probably have some in their own closets!!

Have any of your own suggestions? What do you like boys to wear? Definitely let us know!!!

xxKatie
