Tradesy

Another little "something" I spotted on Instagram was Tradesy. Think of an upscale consignment store meets eBay for name brands ONLY. Imagine your favorite brands: Lilly Pulitzer, Kate Spade, Jack Rogers, you name it! Heavy hitters like Christian Louboutin are even listed!
I decided to list my BRAND NEW unworn Jack Rogers on Tradesy as a test! I've never held a blog sale, because I'm afraid of scams (not that any of y'all are scammers!) and listing items or "selling" them on Facebook. I know that you have to be watching for transactions live, and I'm usually in class or at work when my blog goes live.

Anyway, Tradesy takes all the hassle out of it! I don't have to monitor it like I have to monitor eBay and you don't have to worry about the shipping mess. Tradesy will send you all the stuff you'll need as well has handling the credit card transaction and then pays you!

Sign up here to check out what's for sale or list your own items!

Professional Pins?

It's no secret I'm applying for jobs. I tweet about it a lot, I submit as many as I can on nights I don't have excessive amounts of homework and I try to network as often as I can.

Most of the jobs I'm looking at are in the social media field, but I'm also looking in sales, marketing, digital strategy positions, corporate communications and almost anything else I can get find. Every job description says something along the lines of:

"proficient/expert/knowledge of Pinterest, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Tumblr, Google+, etc., etc., etc..."

The problem is, how to set yourself apart from every other person who can use them. What did I think of last night? Combining some of them!

I pinned my LinkedIn page last night. Then I tweeted about it. And get this--people FAVORITED it. I took that as an implicit, "you're doing something right..."(hopefully...)

I've never heard of anyone doing this. I'm not sure what to expect. That's exactly the same as the rest of the job process though--I've never done it and I don't know what to expect. My thought process: why not?

As a college senior, you can take classes and get help on how to apply for jobs, but no one really has any specific advice on how EXACTLY to get a job. It's all so wishy-washy. There's no map. You write your resume and cover letter and send it out places. Every email says basically, "Don't call us, we'll call you because of our high volume of applicants..." AKA "May the odds be ever in your favor..."

I'm not really sure what to expect, but hey, this is another way I can try to get my name out there. If it helps my resume and name potentially find it's way to someone's desk, I'll take it!

Here's to applying for jobs and doing whatever it takes to landing one!

Sorority Spirit with SFJ!

Recently I spotted Spirit Football Jerseys on facebook! I thought that this seemed like a product that might be RIGHT up the alleys of so many of my Southern, SEC, and Greek audiences that I couldn't wait to share it with y'all!

I have been working especially hard with the guys at SFJ to make sure a lot more sororities have been included--everyone at USC is officially included, and I had to make sure Alpha Omicron Pi was included for my sister who has most recently pledged to be a Panda with blog (and best) friend Holly!

Anyway, y'all gotta check out these fun jerseys that would be PERFECT to sport on chilly nights or to a football game:
Alpha Chi Omega
Alpha Delta Pi
Chi Omega
Delta Delta Delta
Delta Zeta
Gamma Phi Beta
Kappa Delta
Kappa Kappa Gamma
Phi Mu
(I think I know a few Phi Mu's who will definitely want these!)
Zeta Tau Alpha

HOW MUCH FUN ARE THESE? I am obsessed--I would be all about one of these jerseys to be able to toss on, especially as it starts to get closer! It would also be a great gift to get for your little, in Little Christmas or as a surprise to a sister for her birthday! Imagine these as your Winter Pledge Class' pledge shirts or even Spring Bid Day gifts!

Even a little AOPi for a few Auburn Pandas that I had to keep an eye out for!

The Spirit possibilities are endless! Most of these jerseys are LIMITED EDITION, so if you have your heart set on a special one, SNAG it before they're gone!!

You're Flagged!

As about 99% of you all know, this is the facebook icon for Pages!

I'm excited to announce that the Let's Be Preppy fan page has updated to the new Timeline!

The page Timeline is a little more confusing than the standard profile Timeline, but I'm excited to use the new platform and get used to it. As soon as I do understand it all, I'm sure good ol' facebook will flip something! (Am I the only one who feels like that happens all the time?!)

I'm still working out the kinks, but it's a fun transition!

What do you think of the new Timeline?

Tons of BIG companies and fan pages are using Timeline:

The Titanic page is one of my favorites!!
The Bachelor is even using Timeline too!

I think the most effective Timeline user is Starbucks. Starbucks is getting a ton of credit among the social media websites for it's creative use and immediate adoption of the Timeline feature for pages:
Check out the far right side, and you'll see that Starbucks has sincerely completed their company timeline, dating back to their opening in the 80's. Pretty cool, huh!

Do you like Timeline for pages?

About.Me

Blogger
Tumblr
BlackBerry Messenger
LinkedIn
Foursquare
Yelp
Texts
Pinterest
Polyvore
Twitter
Google+
Klout
Facebook
Wordpress
Emails

Social media, ways to connect, ways to build your brand, all of the above?

Ever question how to keep it all organized? Sometimes it's really hard. Actually, most of the time it's really hard. You phone can have about 90% of these apps if not 100% of them. I have a bookmarks bar chock full of all these different websites/applications that I maintain on an almost daily basis. Ask anyone with their own website, and I'm sure they'll say the same thing. We all have our own ways of staying organized, however, I've found a great new website to keep everything all together! Good news!!

Introducing About.Me!
Imagine combining all your different webpages into one personal map!
About.Me keeps track of all your different applications that you might use to promote your blog, website, self, etc. It's s clean website that you can customize as much as you'd like! You can upload photos, change fonts, edit colors, and of course, showcase your social media prowess! I organized mine yesterday into what you see here. I crafted mine to be partly a resume (or similar to my resume in my bio), and partly an organization of social media.

It would be really easy to list this as a website on a resume for a potential company to visit and see your social media exposure! You also can tailor it to exactly what you want people to see. For instance, there's no need for people to see my personal facebook page, so instead I linked mine to my facebook fan page instead! You can alter almost everything on your page...pretty cool! I encourage anyone who's spread their social media networks out online to take advantage of About.Me!

Weekly Gratitude

Yet another week I hardly remember...this next coming week is my last full one at home! CAROLINA BOUND SO SOON! I can't wait for what the rest of the summer has in store for me!

1. Thanks to rain. I think you're coming around and fingers-crossed with knock out alllllll this INSANE heat. I would prefer the state of Maryland to not be "white hot" on Weather.com.
2. Thanks to the Market House for FINALLY OPENING. Woo, it's sure taken a long time but these vendors are pretty yummy and I hope they stay!!
3. Thanks to the South Carolina State Fair for posting their performers!!!! It's like I can FEEL being back at school already!!!!
4. Thanks to everyone's patience last week with all the emails--I PROMISE I will get back to you as soon as I can!!
5. Thanks to knocking another book off of the book list! #anotheronebitesthedust
6. Thanks to my floor for being such a great shelf for stuff. With all of our family in town, we "joked" (as in said in a joking tone but really meant) that no one wanted to stay in my room. Well, humph, my room wasn't looking for any new tenants! Take that y'all!
7. Thanks to ALL the packing I've done for school. Not.
8. Thanks to my job, internships and getting ready for the next few weeks for keeping me busy. A friend of mine from school, (Timmy, I'm not sure if you read LBP but here's your shoutout) and I were talking that we've just about hit the ready-to-go-back point. Both of us were glad to have been home for the summer, more than thankful, but we're both ready to see everyone!!
9. Thanks to my fabulous friend for being able to talk me down this week! It's been one of the most hectic I've had all summer--and I'm not even in school ANYMORE!
10. Thanks to everyone who participated in my boots poll! I'm excited to post more--kinda a fun reader input option on facebook! Feel free to let your opinion be known! Not a facebook fan yet--JOIN THE CLUB!

Weekly Gratitue

Already almost a month under my belt here at home. The weeks are flying by--I seriously do not know where my time is going these days!
(Picture, see WG #4)
1. I am thankful for the Naval Academy. It has a special place in my heart and will have one forever. I've had so many sponsor brothers and sisters (my number is in the teens) and I'm lucky to have met all of them. Just the other night my "youngest" (and by youngest I mean newest) brother had a few of his company-mates over and they had a wonderful time. It was great to meet them all!
2. I am thankful for new blog friends. You never know where they pop up and I know I have a few close ones.
3. I am thankful for this hot weather. With hot weather it brings sunshine, pool openings, and lots and lots of barbecues! Is there even a better way to spend the summer?
4. I am thankful I work in a dog friendly store/town. I've learned so much about different kinds of dogs just from letting them walk in!
5. I am thankful for eBay. I've been having way too much fun browsing their selections. I may or may not be online browsing for formal dresses that I don't need but it's still a heck of a lotta fun!
6. I am thankful for weddings. Weddings are giving me the best opportunity to work this summer in a capacity that I never expected!
7. I am thankful for Pinterest! It is the coolest online live thought board. I am beyond obsessed. Still...
8. I am thankful for hot dogs. I eat them for dinner if we're grilling, and sometimes for lunch from Pip's (my favorite place to eat when I work in Annapolis). I have eaten so many recently, there are few foods that say summer like hot dogs!
9. I am thankful for Facebook and Twitter (probably one of only a few people who are actually "thankful for it"...). They are allowing me to stay in contact with lots of my close friends in a more fun way than emails, texting or phone calls!
10. I am thankful for all the new experiences and friends that I'm getting and making this summer. I know I say it, but I really believe that Summer 2011 is set to be the best on the books for me!

Tune-age

If I may toot my own horn just a little, I must say I've been on my game as far as making playlists goes. This spring has provided me with a lot of good playlist-making fuel and I've been relying on a few new and a few old songs. I've discovered a few from my classes (read: shag, which I've now nicknamed swag), my friends and just randomly hearing some when my iPod is on shuffle. Here are my recent picks:

1. Turning Home by David Nail: I posted this on facebook a few days ago, but I've been ROCKING out to it recently. Last summer, this song was all about getting me back to SC, but these days it's all about me heading back to Annapolis.

2. Mississippi by the Benjy Davis Project: The chorus says it all for me: "Oh, It always puts
a smile on my face and it's the  first time I've been back here since the last time that I came and I think you're really pretty and that's all I'm gonna say. Did you miss me? Did you miss me, Mississippi? Would you kiss me if I stayed?"

3. Crazy Beautiful Life by Ke$ha: This is just a fun crusin' song. Download this one, pop the windows down, and blare it down the main road of campus. Or just put it on your iPod...

4. Love in a College Town by Luke Bryan: Man, this song is about my life. I LOVE it.

5. Someone to Watch Over Me by Ella Fitzgerald: Little secret: I have a running list of the songs I want played at my wedding, this is one of them. I just love it and it's so sweet. She has the best voice for singing it and it makes me happy.

6. Something to Lose by Corey Smith: This song isn't anything super new, but I just love the lyrics and the meaning behind the song. CS, you are so great and I love your songs.

7. Honey Bee by Blake Shelton: I posted this on facebook yesterday and just love it!!!

8. Buzz Back by Chase Rice: Thanks to fave girl sCe for showing me this! So so so cute! She has the best taste in music. I owe her for a lot of these songs quite frankly.

9. Electric by DNC: Any Jersey Shore fans out there? This is one of their featured house songs...yep. It is so great. Just check it out and give it a chance and I promise you'll secretly enjoy it!

10. Whiskey and You by Darius Rucker: I've posted about this one before but it's definitely making a comeback on my iPod. It's a good one I promise.

What are you listening to these days? I can ALWAYS use music suggestions!

Outfit of the Day: Carolina Cup! (+What Everyone Else Wore)

I finally put my outfit together from Carolina Cup! I'm dragging this South Carolina holiday out as long as I possibly can, if you couldn't tell!

I've gotten a few questions about where my dress was from, and it's Lilly from the Warehouse sale! Because of that, I didn't think anyone else would have it, but much to my surprise, I saw 2 other girls with the same dress! I was in shock!! The dress that I saw, I kid you not, probably 50 or 60 times, was the Lilly Blossom Dress Printed in Hotty Pink Small First Impression:
It. Was. Everywhere. You could easily look right, left, up, down, 360 degrees around and be in spitting distance of 4 girls at any given time wearing it.
It's younger sister was not far behind.

I'm definitely glad I wore a different dress that wasn't the #1 most popular. I stuck out a little and matched my hat and everything together. I actually made my hat believe it or not! The bow started out humbly as grosgrain ribbon and it used to have a old-ladyish cheetah sash around the top. I am very proud of my handiwork and it worked out very well! Once my BlackBerry comes back to useable life, I'll upload my hat photo!!

Happy Thursday y'all! I'm heading out shagging tonight and have been feeling inspired by "The Drifters" station on Pandora! Definitely be sure to try it out--and keep your eyes out on the LBP facebook page for the Top 100 Beach Music songs I found on google a few days ago!!

Carolina Cup Week: The What + Where

So, you heard it's time for Carolina Cup, huh? Well, what is Cup might you ask? And how cute is that Lilly logo for Carolina Cup this year?!

"The Carolina Cup race-meeting is a time honored South Carolina tradition that has achieved premier social event status. The annual 'rites of spring' draws over 65,000 fans from throughout the southeast, to enjoy the thrilling sport of steeplechase horse racing amid a flurry of spring fashions and elaborate tailgate parties. From our Hospitality Terrace to College Park, old friends meet and new friends are made during the afternoon of six races."

It's in Camden, SC and is one of the biggest tailgates in South Carolina!

Fraternities tend to take advantage of the day and turn it into a big ol' date function. All of my guy friends in frats have their outfits picked out, know who their dates are and are all looking forward to the day!! I just went shopping with a friend of mine to pick out his pants and his matching bowtie in his fraternity colors (look for a post about it tomorrow!!). We had such a fun time choosing all the different options in the store and they were even having a special Cup trunk show!!

Girls get ALL Lillyfied or wear their favorite BRIGHT colors and wear BIG hats and all the guys don their best seersucker, plaid, madras or colored chinos! Bowties are a MUST--again, I'll have advice coming up this week for all of it!!

Carolina Cup is on April 2, who's going?! Better question: WHAT ARE YOU WEARING!

Anyone have GREAT photos of last year?! Submit them on the Let's Be Preppy Facebook Page or email them to letsbepreppy@gmail.com!

LBP and Taking Chances

Two big announcements in the life of this blog and I figured Friday would be as good a day as any to chat about them!!

A few weeks ago I contacted our student magazine named Garnet & Black regarding a tweet they posted about needing student bloggers. I wasn't sure if I qualified but I am a student as well as a blogger so I took a big chance (#1) and shot them an email to see if they might be interested. The editor politely responded and told me that I'd hear by the end of that week if they wanted to use LBP. I had a jam packed week and it kind of slipped my mind. Friday evening rolled around and I saw an email from a name I didn't recognize but a subject line that made me excited. I immediately called my parents to tell them the good news and make it my facebook status. 15 of my friends "liked" it and there were 7 comments. One was from my roommate bragging that her "roommate was famous" and all I could do was laugh.
I'm thrilled to be included in the magazine and I don't really know what to expect in the mag, but I can't wait to see. It comes out early in November, and I'll be sure to have a big celebratory post when it goes live!! Thanks Garnet & Black!

My second big chance was a few weeks back. One day I was sort of running around campus and popped through our student union. I saw an advertisement for a fashion show run by the USC Fashion Board and they were looking for models. I've never done anything like that AT ALL in my life, but I've been urged by family and friends to try it someday. I never thought much about it beyond saying thank you and politely saying that it wasn't for me, but that day my attitude was more like what-the-heck! I told my roommate Megan and friend Laura and that was it (until pretty much now) because I needed people to confide in. I had to walk down a makeshift catwalk while members of the Fashion Board took photos. I acted nice and normal while other girls acted like this was America's Next Top Model...it was crazy! They were dressed to the nine's, sucking their cheeks in, and I was just taking it all in. Long story short, I ended up making it (yayy!!) as a model and I'm in the middle of the process of fittings and things. I'll be sure to post photos from the whole night. I'll be hitting the stage/runway November 10th! Also as an added bonus Naima from ANTM will actually be there! So cool!!

Lots of fun news for LBP! Get excited!!

Lifeguard Press Contest!

Hi everyone! I was just informed by my boss at Lifeguard Press that we're officially holding a contest on facebook! The winner can get a $100 gift certificate for Lifeguard Press...think of all that wonderful Lilly stuff you could get! (Clue: we're going to be selling BIG umbrellas, iPhone covers, AND academic agendas that run from August to August in the fall...think of everything that 100 Lifeguard Press dollars could go to!)
I think that you all should take place, I'm sure going to! (Whether I can actually win the money or not...I'm not quite sure haha!)

You can access the contest by their BLOG or FACEBOOK PAGE and then you can try to win!! Who knows...maybe they'll give us some clues for loyal entries!

GOOD LUCK!

xxKatie

(PS: I believe the answer to the first question is the same "shade" as the Lilly Pens for anyone who has them!! Or at least that's my guess...shhh!)

The Notebook Doodles

While I was back at school, I read Christine's (from the Sweet Seas) post "Wordless Wednesday" (obviously this is awhile back now...) and saw this photo:

At that point I had been having a bad day and needed a break, and then I saw this. I immediately took the quote from the photo and made it my facebook status to then have about 9 people "like" it. Apparently I wasn't the only one having a not so fabulous day. After seeing this picture, I saw the little "notebook doodles" watermark at the bottom of it and googled it to see what I could find.

...well I found quite the blogging/website golden nugget. Check out some of my favorites:

I exchanged emails with TND, just to tell them how cool I thought they were. Another cool factor: all the writing, isn't a font. She draws all of it, as in it's her handwriting. How cool is that? Now go check out her website too and you'll agree I have no doubt!!

I hope everyone's having good days--it's very rainy here and kinda cold...yuck!
