Something I always wished I was good at doing is hair. I'm not good at curling, my arms get tired trying to do updo's, and I cannnnnot manage to do a sock bun on myself. I get frustrated VERY easily and then tend to give up!
One of the girls who works at the store with me texted me and asked if I could do a waterfall braid. I texted her back saying I didn't, but look for something on Pinterest like a how-to or something like that that might help. I didn't think about it again until I went into work that following Friday.
She ended up coming in and we played around with it and then finally figured it out! It was SO easy!!! Like I said, that's coming from someone who's NOT good at doing hair! We found a quick tutorial that was easy to understand:
We followed this set of rules and did it ourselves! The first time it ended up cute, but we took it out and re-did it with a better strategy in mind. The second time it came out GREAT! Once we got to the end, we ended it with a clear elastic and wrapped another piece of hair around the elastic, securing it with a blonde bobby pin! Taylor wore her hair like this to a wedding and it looked SMASHING! This is a great hairstyle instead of doing the usual half-up-half-down look and it definitely adds some va-voom to your look!
It's rare that I enjoy a trending topic on Twitter. They're typically offensive, racist, or downright stupid and hardly ever worth contributing to. I did however, indulge in one a few days back that I realized, when put together into a list, looked a lot like a playlist!

This MayaQoba dress was my favorite piece in the entire show! I was breathless when I saw it and squealed to Mikelle who was sitting next to me! I REALLY need it!

This Luis Machicao set has my name all over it. That coral liner was such a fun pop of color and I was just thinking how much I want a white work-appropriate shift dress. Adorable!

I had a wonderful time being a part of Columbia Style Week 2012 and I look forward to working again with them in 2013 if I'm still in the area! A huge thanks to all volunteers, organizers, models, designers, VIPs, and everyone who attended CSW2012 and made it such a fun week for people like me!
Wedding 101 was held on Saturday morning and I left work for about an hour to make it! I love all things wedding and figured this would be IDEAL for yours truly. After interning at Bayside Bride last year, I felt like I learned SO much, so I really knew what to keep my eyes out for!
Wedding 101 was also held at Tapp's and converted into wedding wonderland!
The showcase itself was presented by Weddings 101, a local wedding planning service. They did a wonderful job showing us all some great designs! (Minus the clamps used to secure dresses! I wish they found a different way to make them work because they were a teensy bit distracting!)
We got a chance to see designs for the Mother of the Bride, Bridesmaids, Brides, Grooms, Groomsmen, and even a ring bearer! My favorite options were the bridal dresses we saw!
This boatneck dress was my FAAAAAVORITE of all the dresses we saw--LBP loves a boatneck wedding style!
The white dinner jacket look was my pick among all the groom looks! This guy ROCKED it too!
In front of me, so technologically savvy, was The Fat and Skinny on Fashion--a blogger I was lucky enough to meet because of CSW! She's totally a local fashion blogger worth checking out. I also got to meet Josh Ratliff, a stylist who's gotten the chance to work in a TON of places and Mike Kelton, one of the US Weekly fashion police! I was lucky enough to get the chance to hang out with these guys for all of the events on Saturday!
Wedding 101 was a great event and I had a blast yet again getting to cover Columbia Style Week!
I HAD to interrupt today's post after the MAJOR FIND I saw on Facebook last night! (Side note: I didn't know Facebook was even good for that anymore...HA!)
Les Miserables is coming out over Christmas and I for one am SO HAPPY! Little known fact (this is going to mortify my sister) but my family and I are kinda obsessed with Les Mis. As is we own the original London broadway soundtrack, downloaded the HD PBS version on our TV permanently, and often break out into "One Day More" more than we'd like to admit. (My Dad does a pretty sweet Jean Val Jean "2-4-6-0-1" rendition if I do say so myself...)
Anyway, I don't think that I can make it until CHRISTMAS! That is just too darn long! I wish it was coming out as a summer movie but you can count me and my sister DEFINITELY in line for that midnight showing!!!
I can't explain how much fun USC Fashion Week 2012 was! I hardly ever consider myself a "fashion blogger" in the traditional sense, but it was fun to network and meet a lot of Columbia's student fashionistas and fashionistos! I'm sure it was extremely stressful for the organizers (major props to Melissa K. and Mikelle S. as well as all the student designers themselves!) but I'd call it a huge success! There were so many moving parts that went into this week, I'm so excited to be considered a part of it!

The second night, Thursday, we wore ensembles from local sponsors! I wore LaRoque and Bohemian, both local women's boutiques in Columbia.

By nature of the name, this store had fun, trendy pieces in it! I couldn't believe how much of a departure from my normal style this outfit was! That sweater was like full length and I had this crazy cool pink leather wrap watch!
What was especially fun was being able to share this week with one of my closest friends, Aly, who was also in the show! Here's a cool behind-the-scenes photo of her getting ready! (RMS, right Miss Aly?)
All in all, USC Fashion Week 2012 was an absolute blast to be a part of and I'm already looking forward to next year! The organizers will have big shoes to fill and I can't thank Fashion Board at USC enough for including me in everything!!

1. I am thankful for YOUR SOUTH CAROLINA GAMECOCKS! The Capital One Bowl was ridiculously fun once the Gamecocks realized it was a Bowl game and could seriously change their collegiate careers, 2011 season and fan feelings all with one game. We just finished an 11-win season for the FIRST TIME IN SCHOOL HISTORY!
2. I am thankful for the wonderful break that Christmas provided me. It was restful, relaxing (most times), and a much needed month off.
3. (With that said...) I am thankful that I get to go back to school on Thursday. Which is the day after tomorrow. Cue packing frenzy!
4. I am thankful that my birthday is on SUNDAY! I've been counting down since, oh, January 9, 2011. 21 club here I come!
5. I am thankful for the WiFi I'm currently using in the Orlando airport. I wish all airports provided you with free service like this. It's such a treat to be able to use you computer for a few minutes without having to pay ridiculous fees like $9.95 for 24 hours. I hope I never have to be in an airport for 24 hours!
6. I am thankful that it has been a relatively mild winter. I really really hate the cold! Like really really hate it. I was so uncomfortable in NYC when it was windy and freezing. This mild winter has been such a blessing!
7. I am thankful for the FAAAAABulous new Essie color I tried out: Fruit Sangria! Love it!
8. I am thankful that I am starting second semester junior year. I can't believe it, but I am. It is WILD! Now on the lookout for internships for the summer. I have a list of a few that I'd like to apply for so we'll see where it takes us! (Shameless self plug: anyone in Charleston looking for a Marketing/PR/social media intern?)
9. I am thankful for Southwest Airlines and the ease with which I've traveled this break. It was easy to book and both ways we were on time! It makes such a big difference when traveling is easy.
10. I am thankful that I am about to board my flight! Hopefully I'm home around noon!
This NYE scene from "Sex and the City" is one of my favorite New Years Eve scenes in any movie! I feel like it is a very realistic depiction of all different kinds of NYE's that everyone has and I LOVE the Celtic Auld Lang Syne being sung in the background. (A few parts of the clip are a bit more risque than others--it is SATC after all!)
I hope everyone has a wonderful NYE! As for me, I'll be watching the ball drop and sleeping since my big plans are heading down to Orlando for the big Capital One Bowl Game on the first of January! I first heard Lee Brice when I saw Luke Bryan in concert a few months ago! He was one of the opening acts and funny enough, is actually from a few towns over from Columbia! He's from Sumter, SC and even has a song called "Sumter County Friday Night"! So cool! Anyway, "A Woman Like You" is one of my new favorite songs! I couldn't believe it the other day when I saw a tweet from CMT talking about a video for this song. It's a cute video but I just LOVE the song--you must Google the lyrics, they are adorable! Anyway, give this song a quick listen and add it to your regular playlist for sure!
The summer before my freshman year of college I worked for a dermatologist and did a ton of research about Malignant Melanoma. My research was specifically all about how to reach high schoolers and college students about the importance and severity of Malignant Melanoma. This video on behalf of the David Cornfield Melanoma Fund is by far the best video on MM I've ever seen:

Well, it's that time of year again--the midpoint of the semester. This is where you realize that either you can take a little break in studying or you really need to ratchet it up for the rest of the semester. It's never really a good time, am I right? The midpoint of the semester alllllways seems the hardest and everything seems to pile on. At least that's how it's been for me every year of college since I've started. Anyway, to combat the Midpoint Blues, here's my playlist! It's a mix of all kinds of new stuff and fun stuff and as usual, some throwbacks!
1. Stronger by Britney Spears: This song was one of the first "Making the Video" episodes I ever saw--did you know she broke her foot making this video? She tripped on the chair!)
2. After Midnight by Matt Mason: Keep an eye out for him! He just signed a deal with CMT and was on tour with Luke Bryan. Very cool!
3. Won't Be Lonely Long by Josh Thompson: Again, saw him with Luke Bryan and this was definitely a crowd pleaser. My guess is you've heard this on country radio and just didn't know it was him!
4. Stereo Hearts by Gym Class Heros: This is TOO CATCHY! I love it! I listen to it on repeat in the shower and rock out!
5. Dirt Road Scholar by Dean Brody: He is my new music OBSESSION (besides Luke Bryan, because whenever I see any of his album covers I just smile and swoon). I have 7 of his songs that I downloaded at the same time and he's my new go to country guy. (Also, any Kappa Delta followers will like this one!)
6. Fly Me to the Moon by Grace Potter: She did a cover of this OLD SCHOOL tune for Pan-Am and I downloaded it, love it!
7. Runaround Sue by Dion: Biggest throwback of the bunch, but I've been putting this on repeat on a CD I have in my car. Holy moly this has gotten more plays than most!!! ....Gotta keep away from Runaround SUE!!

I know rush is starting for most girls who are going Greek! I wanted to wish y'all a wonderful rush season as it begins! For anyone who's not familiar, there are a few days of rush:
1. Scholarship Day
2. Leadership Day
3. Philanthropy Day
4. Sisterhood Day (Preference Night)
5. Bid Day
Scholarship day is typically the first day and it's casual, more relaxed than the other days and meant for you to quickly learn about the sororities. At USC, it's actually two days long since there are many sororities. USC Greek Life also provides PNM's (potential new members) with t-shirts as a part of rush and all the girls wear those that day! The wonderful Pi Chi's (recruitment leaders) go around with all the groups of girls, spending 20 minutes in each house!
Leadership day whittles the pool down a little (for USC PNM's it goes to a maximum of 7 sororities) and you spend 35 minutes with each house finding out what each does on campus. You wear the second of the two shirts today, again staying calm and casual. These days are great because you won't have to worry about the crazy heat or sweating through a dress!
Philanthropy day is again down to a maximum of 4 sororities, helping you find where you fit best! Today it gets a little more serious as the different philanthropies are special like women against domestic violence, Habitat for Humanity, Girl Scouts, Children's Hospital, or Camp Fire USA! You learn about all the philanthropic events that the sorority holds like DHOP, Turtle Tug, Kat's Making Tracks, and other events!
Sisterhood day is the most serious and each PNM only visits 2 sororities. This day is also known as preference night. These meetings run an hour or longer and are taken very seriously because most of the PNM's visiting the houses could very well be pledges and eventually sisters. Today is learning all about the bond each sororities shares as sisters. Some are candle-lit while others are done with floor-length dresses.
The last day is the least or most stressful of all depending on your view: bid day! Today each PNM finds out which sorority she will be in for the rest of her college experience! You also find out which sorority your Pi Chi is in as well since she has disaffiliated from her sorority since the beginning of the summer to minimize bias. It is a very emotionally-charged day and there is a lot of running and jumping and cheering!

Today's the day! I'm off to South Carolina. While I'm extremely excited, I'm also very sad to be leaving my family, my house, my little bed, and the rest of my friends! I have an 8 hour drive, so tunes are VERY important. Here's what I'll be jamming out to on my way:

5. Use Your Love by Katy Perry: This song is my new jam! Apparently it's old school KP, but I'm all about it! Great for driving through these long states with all the windows down!
6. Summer Girls by Leighton Meester: I didn't like Country Strong at all, but the soundtrack was fun! This just reminds me of getting back to school!!
7. Love in a College Town by Luke Bryan: I'm headed back to MY college town and as y'all can see, I couldn't be happier!!! There are FEW songs that remind me more of school than than this one!!
8. Songs About Rain by Gary Allen: It rained all day long yesterday and rain is on the forecast for very much of today's trip. This song is NOT a happy one, but every playlist is a balance of the happy and sad, old and new, rap and country. Without a few sad songs, this playlist would stink.
9. Breakdown Here by Julie Roberts: This is a shoutout to my Annapolis homies: aBc and sEc! I'll be thinking of you two my entire trip!
10. Died in Your Arms Remix by Smitty: I sing this ENTIRE song when it comes on. HUGE fan and great for a different song in the middle of a roadtrip!
11. Bye Bye by Phil Vassar: Grace has gotten me back into this song AND PV, but this version is so much better than the Jo De Messina version. Did y'all know he wrote this?
12. Wave on Wave by Pat Green: This is on my all time favorite list of driving songs! It is PERFECT for cruisin'!
13. Love Done Gone by Billy Currington: This song makes me oh so excited to shag! With such a fun beat I love it. As the radio station said the other day, "It's the happiest sounding sad song ever!" I totally agree!
14. Never Gonna Leave This Bed by Maroon 5: I listened to this song on my way home and now it's on the list again! I had to bring a few back onto this list from the last list for sure.

I'm in the process of making visit plans for my friends who are at home to come see me and Momma and Daddyo will be back to see me about a month after classes start for the big Navy/USC game!!

Last night I did a ton of work emailing, replying, getting back to (thank you EVERYONE), tumbling, everything getting caught up on a lot of the summer! This song was on full blast/repeat because I'm lovin' it these days! John Legend is great for summer easy listening for sure!

Summer is good for a lot of things: re-evaluating, starting fresh, getting serious (or not), catching up, catching sun, cleaning (or not), clothes collection, tons of stuff. It's also great for learning what you like. I've learned a lot about myself this summer, some of which are my absolute-no-matter-where-you-live-must-haves:

Never in my life have I gotten as many compliments on my nail color (weird thing to notice, am I right?) as I've gotten wearing this puppy. Might be the best $1.99 I've spent, at Happy Harry's nonetheless, all summer long.
I'm a FIRM believer in the 5'' shorts (Michael if you're reading this you can laugh at the 3 vs. 5 inch debate we had a million years ago) and Lilly does it particularly well. I have 2 pairs from last summer and have added 3 pairs this summer that I adore. They're the tall girl's short shorts...
Along those same lines, I've hit it big with this shirt. I WAY missed the boat with the navy and didn't snatch it up in time, but I have the white and the pink and I try to convince people to at least try it on daily. If you don't have a Wiley grab one "wiley" you still can!
I have never been a makeup girl. I'm a get up and go girl. Until this summer when I was diagnosed with adult acne. Sista needed a little help and the lovely ladies at Clinique did exactly what I needed and fast. I've relied on this with Sephora Brand Primer and it's great!

I steam a lot at work. We get new shipments in weekly and they all need to be freshened and given a bit of life after they come out of the boxes! We joke with our UPS men that they're always delivering gifts to us! I love to steam all of our goodies and have started browsing them with my boss for our own personal use...professional grade steamers...for our personal use...you know you work in retail when.
7. Movies:
Although not my favorite of the summer movies I've seen, I've seen a bunch and have a hankering to go to one this weekend. Not sure which one, but I want to go to a movie, and veg out for 2 hours in someone else's way too cold AC. Sounds so nice after these summer steamy days we've been having!
8. Shopping for formal dresses (that I don't need):
I literally have ZERO need for a floor-length or remotely dressy dress. I don't go to proms anymore, I'm not in a sorority and don't have formal, and none of my friends are having black-tie weddings, so I'm at a loss. Does it stop me from fancy dress shopping? Absolutely not.
9. Carolina Gamecocks
No matter where I am, I'm cheering for the Gamecocks. Having been through this week, I think this is enough said.
It has never been easier to connect with Gamecocks, alumni, school friends, Lilly lovers, random friends from high school, Charlestonians, bridal companies, and so many other people than through Twitter! I have had a blast using it and learning it's ways--and tweeting my way through the College World series!
